CARTA BELLA – ROCK-A-BYE BABY BOY – PROJECT LIFE by Guest Designer Melinda France

Hi Melinda again,

In addition to the traditional 12×12 layouts I completed, I also made a couple of pocket page (Project Life) spreads with this gorgeous baby range from Carta Bella.

I discovered Project Life several years ago, but have only started doing this type of Memory Keeping this year. I love it because, for me, it feels like the pressure to document everything has been lifted. I can print photos, type or write out stories and fill up all the pockets when I have a chance, and then put the rest of my crafty time towards getting really creative with my supplies. I no longer feel overwhelmed at the sheer number of pages I feel like I need to create to tell all of the stories, which means I have more fun.

The majority of my little boy’s baby album will be in this format because I have rather A LOT of photos. I will simply mix in any traditional layouts.

I selected my photos first. With this first spread, I really wanted to include all of these 4×6 photos, so decided to split the one of our three hands into two 3×4” photos side by side. I really quite like this effect.

Once the photos were laid out on top of the pockets in a pattern I was happy with,  I chose 2 of the 4×6 cards from the 4×6 Journalling Cards Paper and put them into the top pockets. I also used one of the 3×4 Journalling Cards from that paper and hand journaled directly onto that. I then typed up some more journalling and printed onto white cardstock which I trimmed to 4×6”.

The card that has the ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’ Nursery Rhyme on it is cut from the top corner of the ‘Boy Nursery Rhymes’ paper to fit in a 3×4” pocket.

Finally I went through and added some small embellishments from the sticker sheet, ephemera packs, chipboard accents and enamel shapes. Some of these I stitched on with my sewing machine, and others were stuck on with foam tape or double sided tape. Overall I’m very happy with the balance of story and creativity I managed to achieve.

I followed a similar approach in putting together the second spread. I have used some offcuts to turn into flags to label some of the photos, and stitched some embellishments onto the back of one of the 4×6 Journalling cards as a decorative filler card. The bottom piece which I cut off this embellishment was then turned into the curly bracket in the top right hand pocket! For this spread I also typed some journalling directly onto a journalling card in the Project Life App and then printed that out to slip straight into the pocket. I also used a star embossing folder with my Cuttlebug to create the decorative card at the bottom of the left hand page. I adhered the chipboard rocking horse over this to keep the theme of this spread going.

All supplies are from the Carta Bella Rock a Bye Baby Boy collection with the exception of the sewing, the ‘Love’ and ‘3’ Word Art which are from Ali Edwards, the white cardstock and embossing folder, and the project life journalling card.

Now to finish the rest of his first year! But before I do that, I couldn’t help myself, I loved these papers for cards as much as scrapbooking, so stay tuned for a few cards for special little people. I think I might have to invest in some of the girl range too though, as almost everyone I know having babies at the moment is having a little girl!

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Melinda
